BCUR 2018
What a day! We woke up at the crack of dawn and hopped on a bus all the way to sunny (foggy) Uni of Sheffield for the British Conference of Undergraduate Research event (BCUR) to share our research with undergraduates from all over Britain. I think we all agreed it was daunting, but the chance to show off our project whilst being provided with unlimited pastries and coffee was too good to miss.
We arrived at 9am by coach and set up our poster straight away, we soon realised we were surrounded by A LOT of scientists. Our salmon pink poster with swirly yellow writing stood out considerably in comparison to the array of light-blue text-heavy scientific posters. Not to say that the other posters were bad, just more complex. We were welcomed with breakfast and a keynote speaker talking about her PhD experience at Sheffield, which was interesting.

The best part of the day was the opportunity to spy on other people's posters and get an idea of other ways to present. However, with we were slightly inhibited in our ability to compare due to the heavily science based nature of the others.
It has been an exciting opportunity for us all to test out our presenting skills in a large scale setting, and get such good feedback from people walking past. Turns out the pink background and swirly writing was the right choice after all.
Now we need to get our heads down and try to get our final portfolio assignment in for May. Hopefully our research output (our website) will live up to all of our bragging!
