History of Education: Children's Schooling in 20th Century Britain

Welcome to the website for the 'History of Education: Children's Schooling in 20th Century Britain'. This is the page for our research project which has been kindly funded by The Footsteps Fund. The project is led by Lily Sullivan, Gary Knight and Fahim Ahmed, working with Ellie Murray and Dr Jessica Meyer.

This website will provide resources for senior schools teaching about 20th century education, as well as being a site of contact to keep up to date with the progress of our project. Our research focuses on the prevalence of gender roles in children's experiences of education, with special attention to a collection of grammar school magazines, exploring what they revealed about the school experience between the 1930s and 1970s, and how this was impacted by gender, specifically in the classroom, sports teams and preparation for future careers.

For any queries or feedback please use our contact page, or tweet us here.
